How do you feed the world, when the world doesn’t have the water to feed itself?
–Rishi R. Masalia, the Ripple Effect
In 2016 I was one of 10 finalists for the University of Georgia 3 Minute Thesis competition. I spoke about global water scarcity and how my PhD dissertation could help
3MT involvement:
I love the three minute thesis competition. First, it’s so fun to do. Second, it’s a phenomenal exercise in science communication forcing you to be both clear and concise for a non-science audience. As I have moved out of graduate school and into the startup world, I still use the power of the 3 minute thesis. Anytime I am learning a new scientific field or getting ready to pitch to investors I will often make a 3MT style write up and rehearse it as the start to an elevator pitch. I love this competition so much that as VP of Biotechnology at Running Tide, our division sponsored the official 3MT contest hosted by the ASPB Early Career Plant Scientist Section in the Plant Biology 2023 meeting.

For information on how to give a good 3MT below is a video on The Power of the 3 Minute Thesis a workshop I gave on behalf of ASPB.
